The Baltimore City Fire Department is grieving the loss of one of its own. Erica Harrison, a dedicated paramedic, passed away in a motorcycle crash on Friday morning while traveling on I-95.
At 39 years old, Erica had committed two and half years of service to the Baltimore City Fire Department. Just one day shy of her second anniversary with Medic 27, she met with this untimely accident.
Cause of Death
A terrible motorcycle accident was reported by Maryland State Police on I-95 South, near the Welcome Center, on a busy Friday morning. The victim, identified as Harrison, lost control of her motorcycle during rush hour traffic.
Authorities said that the incident started when a Dodge car swerved to try to avoid hitting Harrison’s motorcycle, but instead, it struck her. Highway cameras caught the chaotic incident, with the motorcycle lying on its side while police officers quickly blocked off two lanes.
Following the accident, Harrison was swiftly airlifted to Shock Trauma for urgent medical attention, but sadly, she succumbed to her injuries. Initial investigations suggest that alcohol was not a contributing factor to the crash, and as of now, no charges have been filed in connection with the incident. However, authorities emphasize that the investigation remains ongoing as they work to uncover the full details and circumstances surrounding the collision.
Motorcycle Club and Fire Department Grieving the Loss
Members of Erica’s motorcycle club and the Baltimore City Fire Department came together to pay tribute to her after hearing the heartbreaking news of her death. On Tuesday, they carried her body from Shock Trauma to Wylie Funeral Home in Randallstown. Friends, family, and the community all feel empty in Erica’s wake due to her sudden death. Her kind nature and commitment to helping others will be sincerely missed. Those who knew this extraordinary paramedic will continue to be inspired by her warmth and compassion as Baltimore City grieves her passing.
