The City of Alameda is in sorrow as it acknowledges the unexpected passing of former firefighter Patrick Corder at the age of 43. The Alameda Fire Department sadly reports his demise, attributing it to a work-related post-traumatic stress injury (PTSI).
For over 15 years, Patrick dedicated himself to the Alameda Fire Department (AFD) as a firefighter paramedic until his retirement last year. In his latest role as a Community Paramedic, Patrick passionately assisted community members, including those without homes, in addressing their fundamental medical requirements.
In his professional journey, Patrick played key roles on the IAFF Local 689 Executive Board, serving as Trustee, Recording Secretary, and ultimately as President. His commitment to community service was evident both in his role at the Alameda Fire Department and within Local 689. Patrick played a crucial role in the success of the Community Paramedic program, a valuable service for our community. This initiative laid the foundation for the Alameda C.A.R.E Team, the fire department’s unit for mental health crisis response, as highlighted by Fire Chief Nick Luby.
As a dedicated Alameda resident, Patrick’s sudden departure has deeply saddened many in the community who were touched by his strong local ties. Our thoughts go out to Patrick’s wife, their families, his AFD colleagues, and all those close to him. During this challenging period, we respectfully ask for privacy to be extended to his loved ones.
