On February 5, 2024, The Melbourne, Australia community of Presbyterian Ladies’ College (PLC) is saddened by the departure of an extraordinary leader and educator, Miss Joan Montgomery AM OBE, known as Monty. She was Principal from 1969 to 1985, leaving behind a legacy defined by visionary leadership, unwavering commitment to education, and a lasting influence on numerous students and staff members. The cause of death has not been revealed yet, the general public will be informed as soon as more information becomes available.
Achievements
She received prestigious awards for her outstanding educational contributions, such as the Order of the British Empire(OBE) in 1975 and the Member of the Order of Australia(AM) in 1986. In 2004, her lasting impact was honored when she was added to the Victorian Honour Roll of Women.

Joan Montgomery, born in July 1925, was an Australian educator celebrated for her exceptional leadership in education. Serving as the Headmistress of Clyde School from 1960 to 1968 and later as the Principal of Presbyterian Ladies’ College from 1969 to 1985, she earned a well-deserved reputation as a forward-thinking leader dedicated to the progress of independent girls’ schools.
